Driver's License is a division of the Madison County Sheriff's Department. Idaho Department of Transportation in Boise (Driver Services) regulates business conducted in Driver's Licenses. The Office also interfaces with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Social Security Administration.

To obtain a Driver's License/Identification Card, one needs a previous license (this must be surrendered), or a certified copy of a birth certificate and a photo ID. Proof of residency in Idaho (call the Office for a list of acceptable documents) and a Social Security card are also required. In addition, it is necessary to pass written and driving tests if applying for a license. (NOTE: If a license is suspended anywhere, it must be cleared before one can be issued in Idaho.)

To obtain a Driver's Permit, a certified copy of a birth certificate, a Certificate of Compliance that the applicant is enrolled in school (if under 18),and a Photo Identification are required. A certified copy of a birth certificate may be obtained from the State Bureau of Vital Statistics in the birth state. The applicant must be 17 years of age or have had Driver Training.
