“Madison County wishes to ensure a balance between private interests and those of the community at large. Comprehensive planning requires a careful examination of all land use regulations and requirements to find and protect this balance. The County is committed to creating a regulatory framework that ensures that land use policies, restrictions, and fees do not violate private property rights, excessively impact private property values, or create unnecessarily technical limitations upon the use of property which will constitute an unconstitutional taking of private property rights” (2008 Madison County Comprehensive Plan).
Madison County Planning Zoning Department staff work to ensure that the policies, rules and standards of the Comprehensive Plan, Unified Development Code, and current residential and commercial building codes are fairly and efficiently met by all seeking assistance with altering land use, building permits, and other planning or building endeavors.
